Overview

On Saturday, March 17, 2018 men from across the diocese will gather at Saint Bede Catholic Church in Williamsburg for the 6th Annual Diocesan Catholic Men’s Conference. This year’s theme, “Truly Present,” will explore Jesus’ presence to us and our call to be present in all our relationships in the world as husband, father, brother, and friend. Hans Urs Von Balthasar, a Swiss theologian from the 20th century, writes, “If you live near a waterfall, after a week, you’ll no longer hear its rumble. In the same way, we have forgotten how to listen” how to be truly present, both to God and to each other (Heart of the World).

This year will feature a dual-track conference with keynote speakers in English and Spanish, breakout opportunities, Reconciliation, Adoration, and Mass. Deacon Harold Burke-Sivers will be the keynote speaker for the English-speaking track.

Please reply - Gentlemen:practice schedule for Christmas Eve black tie

Happy Advent gentlemen!

As has been announced recently, Allen has graciously offered time in his busy schedule to rehearse with us for our annual black tie, Christmas Eve, leadership of carols and sacred music for the 8:00 PM liturgy in the church.

Two practices are scheduled. We're each asked to participate in at least one of the two practices. They are:

December 9 (this Saturday) at 8:30 AM in the choir room.

December 16 (one week from this Saturday) at 8:30 in the choir room.

The choir room, somewhat new and for those who may not yet know, is a former nursery which has been converted for this purpose. If you were to enter from the blacktop behind the church at the entrance closest to the commons, the choir room is located directly in front of that entrance. Look for us gathering outside of it.

On Christmas Eve, we'll gather in the choir room for a final tune up at 7:00 PM. After rehearsing for 20 minutes or so, we'll head into the church in front of the Mary altar to begin leading the congregation in carols prior to the 8:00 PM start of the Mass.

Please reply here with your intentions:

To sing with The Gentlemen December 24 at the 8:00 PM liturgy (black tie).

To practice either 12/9, 12/16, or both.

As always gentlemen, thank you!

Wayne

Layman's Terms

From John M:

Layman's Terms

November 21st Topic | "Telling the truth about Humanae Vitae"

Layman's Terms is a monthly webinar series hosted for all clergy, lay pastoral leaders, and volunteers to explore a variety of ministry related topics relevant to parish life. This month we pick up again with our "Telling the Truth About..." series. With the 50 year anniversary of the encyclical "Humanae Vitae" coming up next summer, and after celebrating Respect Life Month, we thought it would be a good time to examine the impact this seminal work has had on the Church. We'll also explore the predictions that Pope Paul VI made about the future of our culture as we reflect back over the last 50 years.

Join us for this webinar on Tuesday, November 21st at at the usual time of 2:30pm (as a reminder, they are always the 3rd Tuesday of each month at the same time). It is free to attend but you need to register.
